‘It seems that my inner spirit has reached out and touched the inner spirit of the other. Our relationship transcends itself, and has become a part of something larger. Profound growth and healing and energy are present.’

Reiki & Energy Healing in Huddersfield | Trauma-Informed Reiki

Reiki for Nervous System Regulation, Trauma Recovery & Embodied Healing

Reiki is a gentle form of energy healing that offers space to slow down, reconnect with your body and cultivate a deeper sense of presence. I offer trauma-informed, person-centred Reiki in Huddersfield, integrating Reiki with my experience as a counsellor and psychotherapist. My approach is grounded in compassion, consent, curiosity and respect for your own inner wisdom.

Reiki offers an opportunity to pause and listen inwardly - to notice what is happening in your body, emotions and energy and to gently reconnect with your own resources of safety and wellbeing. You do not need to have a particular belief about Reiki or energy healing to experience a session. You are welcome to approach the work with curiosity and simply notice what unfolds for you.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese energy healing practice developed in the early twentieth century by Mikao Usui. The word Reiki is commonly understood as relating to universal or spiritual energy, with ki referring to life-force energy - the vitality, aliveness and inner movement that connects us with our capacity to engage with life. I think of this less as something we need to create and more as something that is already within us: a natural flow that can become constricted when we experience stress, trauma or overwhelm and that we can gently reconnect through presence, embodied awareness and a sense of safety. In this way, Reiki can offer a space to explore what it feels like to move between different states of activation and rest, drawing on the nervous system's natural capacity for flexibility, rhythm and flow.

Reiki is traditionally offered through gentle touch or with the practitioner's hands held just above the body. The intention is to create a calm, supportive environment in which you can rest, receive and connect with your inner world. For me, Reiki is not about imposing a particular belief system. It is an embodied practice that can provide a quiet space away from the demands of everyday life, allowing you to become more aware of your body, breath, sensations, emotions and inner experience.

Trauma-Informed Reiki

Our experiences are not held only in our thoughts and memories. Trauma and prolonged stress can also affect how we inhabit and experience our bodies. A trauma-informed approach recognises that touch, stillness, relaxation and inward attention can feel different for different people. What feels soothing to one person may feel uncomfortable or overwhelming to another. This is why your autonomy and consent are central to my Reiki practice. We can explore what helps you feel comfortable and grounded, including whether you would prefer touch, hands-off Reiki, self-touch or no physical contact at all. You remain in control of your experience throughout the session. I work gently and at your pace, with awareness of the ways trauma can affect the nervous system, body awareness and sense of safety.

Reiki & the Nervous System

Reiki can offer a period of deep rest and quiet in which the body has an opportunity to move away from the demands of constant activity and stimulation. People often describe Reiki sessions as calming, relaxing or restorative. Some experience a greater awareness of their body and breath, while others notice emotions, sensations, imagery or memories arising.

There is emerging research exploring Reiki and other energy-healing approaches in relation to wellbeing, anxiety, pain, fatigue and trauma. You can read more about the benefits of energy healing for nervous system regulation, trauma recovery and creative process on my blog here.

A Person-Centred Approach to Reiki

My Reiki practice is informed by the same values that underpin my counselling and psychotherapy work: relationship, presence, autonomy and trust in your capacity for growth. There is no particular way you need to experience Reiki. You might notice warmth, tingling, heaviness, lightness, movement, emotion, imagery or simply a sense of rest. You might experience very little sensation at all. You do not need to make anything happen. Instead, we can become curious about your experience and what your body may be communicating. I believe that healing is not something that can be forced. Sometimes creating enough safety and space to pause, feel and listen can allow something within us to begin to shift naturally.

Reiki, Body Awareness & Somatic Healing

Reiki can provide a non-verbal way of connecting with the body. For people who spend a great deal of time thinking, analysing or trying to understand their experiences, coming into the body can offer a different way of knowing. During a session you may notice:

  • Sensations and changes within the body

  • Your breathing and rhythm

  • Areas of tension or ease

  • Emotions that arise

  • Your sense of boundaries and personal space

  • Images, memories or intuitive knowings

  • Where and how you experience safety, comfort or connection in your body

  • What your body may be asking for or need

Reiki & Creative Integration

Integration is an important part of my work. For this reason, I offer 90-minute Reiki sessions, allowing time not only for the Reiki practice itself but also for gently exploring and integrating your experience afterwards. Depending on what feels appropriate for you, integration might involve:

  • Talking

  • Mark-making

  • Drawing or image-making

  • Writing

  • Movement

  • Breath

  • Grounding

  • Simply sitting quietly with what you have experienced

You do not need to be creative or have any artistic experience. These practices are not about producing something beautiful. They offer another language through which your experience can be expressed and understood.

Ways Reiki May Support You

People may seek Reiki for many different reasons, including:

  • Stress and overwhelm

  • Nervous system regulation

  • Anxiety

  • Emotional exhaustion & burn-out

  • Difficulty relaxing

  • Dissociation and feeling disconnected from the body

  • Trauma recovery

  • Grief and life transitions

  • Sleep and rest

  • Reconnecting with yourself

  • Exploring spirituality

  • Developing greater body awareness

  • Supporting a meditation or mindfulness practice

  • Simply creating space to slow down and receive

Sessions & Structure

Reiki Sessions in Marsden, Huddersfield

Reiki is offered from the Grounded Connection space in Marsden, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, within a quiet and confidential therapeutic environment. Sessions are 90 minutes, allowing sufficient time for settling, Reiki, reflection and integration.

I work specifically with clients who wish to engage in a longer-term therapeutic process. I value the depth and continuity that can develop when we work together over time. Regular sessions allow us to build a therapeutic relationship in which there is space to become more deeply acquainted with your body, your inner world and your own process, rather than approaching each session as an isolated experience. This ongoing work can support you to notice patterns, explore what is emerging, deepen your embodied awareness and develop a more connected relationship with yourself over time.

Regular sessions are offered weekly or fortnightly depending on the rhythm and depth of support that feels right for you. Reiki can also be integrated alongsideweekly counselling sessions, offering a complementary embodied dimension to the therapeutic process. The combination can create space to move between talking and experiencing - exploring what you understand through words alongside what you notice, feel and experience within your body.

I work in this way because I believe meaningful therapeutic change often needs time, relationship, safety and space to unfold. Reiki can become part of an ongoing process of self-discovery, integration and growth.
